Dryland Training to Begin 1/3/09

12/17/08

By Stacey

This is posted on the PLSHA home page.  The Capital's first dryland session will be from 12:30-1:30 on Saturday, January 3, 2009.

Dear PLSHA Parents and Players-

Exceed Hockey will begin PLSHA team training in the off-ice facility starting December 8th, 2008.  All travel teams will have 10 training sessions; Advanced and Intermediate mites will be following a similar training schedule.

The facility is nearly finished, minus a few cosmetic details that will be completed in the next day or two.  The off-ice facility will create an environment similar to those of other successful hockey programs in the state of Minnesota.  Players will train with one another and push each other to improve, both physically and mentally.  The facility will build a sense of pride within the association, provide a convenient location for team building and unity, and help young athletes within the PLSHA achieve their athletic goals.  All players who train in the facility will learn and practice the skills necessary to become better hockey players.

The Exceed Hockey staff has many years of playing and training experience at a high level, we will provide high quality training in a fun yet challenging environment.  Many members of the off-ice training staff are currently coaching within the PLSHA youth association; we want our program to improve and become successful at all levels.  Exceed Hockey’s goal is to give all players in the association a chance to succeed by providing them with the necessary training required to become successful.  It’s our aim to help take the PLSHA to the next level by helping to create better hockey players and teammates.

The current program will consist of three distinct stations; all players will train at each station during their session.

1.  Shooting, passing, and stickhandling circuits will all be done on the synthetic ice in the facility.

2.  Russian Box and Slideboards.  This is done for leg strength, knee bend, correct skating posture, power, and balance.

3.  Plyometrics.  Jumping, bounding, quick feet ladders, wobble boards, BOSU balance balls, agility squares all designed to help our players become stronger, more coordinated/agile and stronger skaters.

We will also be doing core work and several other hockey specific exercises that help to make better hockey players.

All teams will start their training session with an agility warm-up followed by a team stretch.  Stretching and athletics go hand-in-hand; we will stress the importance of it with the goal of carry over to pre and post game/practice habits.

A skating treadmill is in the works for the facility.

The Exceed Hockey staff is extremely excited about the benefits this will bring to the PLSHA and we really look forward to training all the boys and girls!  Please feel free to stop in the facility any time and check it out.

Additional team and small group training sessions will be available.  Please speak with an Exceed Hockey staff member for additional information.

Sincerely,

The Exceed Hockey Staff

By Stacey

Our mite team will be scrimmaging the Kings between the 1st and 2nd period of the Prior Lake Boys' Varsity game on Tuesday December 16th, game time starting at 7:00pm. This is a pretty fun night for the kids!  The High School hockey team gets down on one knee and provides a tunnel for the boys to skate through as they enter the ice to begin their scrimmage.  Please plan for this night, it is a night to remember!

Go Lakers!!
